The cheetah is an
animal of extremes. It is the fastest
four footed animal ever to have lived
on the face of this planet - a specialist
geared to the business of killing at
high speed. Despite - and sometimes
because of - its remarkable anatomical
and behavioural adaptations, the cheetah
is a threatened species in Africa. Loss
of habitat, competition with predators
and intolerance by man are all leading
to the deepening crisis for this remarkable
cat.
Our story details
the natural history of the cheetah,
and highlights a network of dedicated
individuals and organizations fighting
to keep cheetah populations viable.
One such hero is Laurie Marker. An American
whose passion for these beasts has led
to the creation of the Cheetah Conservation
Fund in Namibia.
The CCF's work has been an uphill battle,
struggling to change the country's perception
of cheetah as vermin, and to increase
the world's awareness of the cheetah's
plight.
Join Panthera Productions
as we reveal the life of wild cheetahs
and document the CCF's efforts to preserve
them in their rightful place on southern
Africa's grasslands. |
